Research findings and lived experiences indicate that food has become a double-edged sword; nourishes our bodies and is a contributing factor in the rising cases of preventable illnesses such as obesity, overweight, Type 2 diabetes, Cardiovascular (heart disease and stroke), and Hypertension (blood pressure).

Further, these ailments are common among immigrants in cities and other urban centers. This is concerning, for the rate of immigration and the number of immigrants is on a constant rise, and these immigrants are depended upon to provide a livelihood for their parents and other extended family.
On arrival in their new environment, many immigrants are very busy working to earn a livelihood, that they end up eating easily accessible food items.
A few years after their immigration, many immigrants become deficient in food nutrients while others suffer from food-related ailments, rendering them unproductive in their career endeavours. Subsequently, some immigrants begin to doubt their decision to immigrate.
We are here to share experiences, skills and knowledge. My hope is that you will learn steps to take to find and eat diverse food items, to benefit you and your elderly parents.
